Has anyone done genetic testing through 23&me? I knew I had NAFLD before, but I got my results and it said I was genetically predisposed to NAFLD! I wonder how that affects treatment?

At the moment it doesn't. We don't yet have drugs targeted geneticallly but some are in development because of reseach like 23andME. The main target today is PLPN3 which is what makes hispanic people more likely to have NAFLD.

It is distributed across all ethnicities, in some studies the proportion is 0.324 in Caucasians, 0.183 in African Americans, and 0.483 in the Hispanics. The test has been done in my family and the CG variant prevails, I still have it pending, although I tend to develop fatty liver, I don't think it gives me much more information .

That's very interesting. Had no idea there was genitic testing related to NAFLD . I've never done one of those tests.

It's for ancestry but you can add the health component, which covers quite a few conditions. Paid out of pocket, so will not be part of your health record.

Cool , thanks .

Up to this point I haven't felt the risk was worth the benefit for the privacy concerns that goes along with those. Although, I recently heard of a newer one that gives you more control. I may have to try it out.
