Hi - I am also a new member with a quick question. A blood test showed that my liver enzymes were slightly raised. I had an ultrasound but nothing was evident. Three months later I had another blood test with the same result but the ultrasound showed what my doctor called a "lumpy" liver. He is referring me to a liver specialist. I cannot find any information regarding a lumpy liver and NAFLD is the closest I can find. I'm not sure if it is the same thing and was wondering if anyone else had the lumpy liver diagnosis?

Hi Chappie, well lumpy is something a patient might say. I don't recall a doctor using the term but its good you are seeing a liver specialist. The liver should be smooth. If it develops fibrosis it gets distorted by the scar tissue and eventually does develop bumps and nodules. Ultrasound isn't very good at identifying this so the liver docs will use other methods to determine what is going on. The scar formation aspect of NAFLD is called NASH for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. There are other conditions that cause liver problems but your specialist will sort those out. Glad you are going as it is important to get a handle on it.

Thanks for getting back to me. I should mention that the doctor did do a hepatitis panel showing no concerns. Also I have no other symptoms as so many here have indicated. I am on cholesterol medication and the only other med would be two Tylenol for arthritis which I have taken on a daily basis for the past 5 years. He did ask that I refrain from the Tylenol. "Lumpy" liver was a term that he used so I think he used that term to describe the ultrasound.
