My thoughts on Fatty Liver

1. We are all here for a reason we are concerned about our health.

(So many people are diagnosed with Fatty Liver, their Dr. tell them it is okay and no follow up required and they continue with their lives).

2. A tremendous amount of people are walking right now with Fatty Liver, eating unhealthy, drinking and they might never find out they have fatty liver and make it just okay for the rest of their lives.

3. Regular Physicians, Gastros, Hepatologist, do not take Fatty Liver serious unless you have Fibrosis or a more serious Liver Disease.

4. Ultrasounds help to see the amount of fat in liver but not a good way to follow up for comparison, it all depends who reads the films, how they interpret it, etc. I guess it helps to do it every so often to make sure Fatty Live has not progressed to another disease.

In conjunction with Blood Work, and Fibro scan.

5. Fibro Scans are more accurate to follow up on Fibrosis.

With this said, I followed all these rules for the past 7 years, between eating healthy, drinking occasionally, sometimes eating bad and had a few days where I over drank.

I am currently 5'8 165 lbs.

But I think every system is different and might not ever completely recover from Fatty Liver.

I think as long as we keep checking every year or so for Fibrosis through a Fibroscan and Blood work for general marks, continue eating healthy, limiting sugars, bad carbs, and alcohol we could avoid progressing.

I am still trying my best to completely getting rid of it, but my goal is to eat healthy, keep a good body weight, limiting alcohol and just continue checking it every year or two.

I agree with you and that is basically how I try to live my life.

I love your approach. My hepatologist told me I still need to have quality of life. So while i would love a complete reversal and the liver of a skinny 18 year old, it's not realistic. So, as i prepare to go on January 20 for my next set of tests, I am 3.5 pounds away from losing "the 10%" weight. I have an occasional glass of wine (thanksgiving, xmas, new years - 1 each), and i have primarily a Mediterranean diet with periodic fasting - I will be thrilled with stopping the progression (I have F3) and a partial reversal of the fat and fibrosis.

Thanks for your reply, I agree. I have to honestly say that I over stress about any condition; but that should not be a bad thing at all since that helps us aims towards healthier system. However, stressing too much can also aggravate yours system, liver, etc. so there should be a balance. I think the MOST important thing is to eat healthy, not a diet but a choosing the right food, and not overdrinking. I think 1 or two drinks every so often should not kill you, unless you have a serious liver disease. Also, watching anything we put on our body, medicines,

Also very important is to accurately follow up on the severity of the disease. Blood work is only an indication when the liver is crying for help, most people go with for blood work and it is completely normal, but they could still have fatty liver.

Ultrasounds, CT's and Fibro Scans could give us a better understanding of our severity.
