I have NAFLD for years now, unaware I had it as my GP never actually said those words to me. In the last two weeks I have had upper discomfort which is freaking me out. I eat well now and exercise. I have had my bloods taken - no results back yet and will see my consultant in May for my annual fibroscan and check up. My question is: how long does the discomfort last ?? my GP said "its a slow burner" the more weight I lose the better it will be. I've only really changed my life in the last couple of weeks. Thanks in advance.

Hello Scottish
An unknown is what your actual status is. You have had fibroscans in the past, do you happen to know what your scores were? That discomfort can have many sources so it isn't possible to tell you much until you can identify the specific problem. For many pain is chronic but not always.

last may it was 11
You are right to want to explore this with your physician. While it isn't a definitive diagnosis a stiffness score of 11 is often interpreted to mean F3 to F4 fibrosis. There is a range of values that people disagree on but it is reasonable to be concerned about your liver health and it is something to discuss in depth with your physician, but you will likely be told that it is critical to deal with weight and lifestyle.
Thank you, scary stuff.
It is scary, but there are a lot of us in the boat with you. It generally is a slow motion process and people do succeed at halting the progression so you are not helpless. I also had the disease for years. I asked my GP for years to do blood tests but he said I just had a virus. We know when our bodies need help. Now my I have liver cirrhosis and almost died from septic double pneumonia. With diet changes, weight loss, and eating right foods (no salt, proteins and sugars) our liver can regain some function. Good luck!
Nettl, I would make a correction depending on the stage of your liver disease, protein may be very important. One with a cirrhotic liver just has to be careful with protein, but it is still needed in some amounts, though not too much. Plant protein is better
I didn’t talk about my stage. I started out with Hep c stage b, liver cirrhosis stage 5. I don’t know what it is now, I go for work up every six months and will find out then. My Digestive Disease doctor sent me to a blood/cancer specialist just to get his opinion. He said it takes a long time to get back feeling better, but it does get better.
Hi,
There is a lot to discuss but first thing first. Laser in on your diet like never before. This is key. Is your BMI ok? Let’s share some tips on healthy eating.
