If you are here, you care about liver disease, but most people don't. You want a cure, but without support from society, you won't get one. If not dying of liver disease is of interest to you, stick with me here for a minute. One statistic. There are about 250,000 women who get breast cancer each year. That is terrible, but there are about 5 million of us with cirrhosis and 20 million with NASH which could be called pre-cirrhosis. And yet everyone supports breast cancer research but when was the last time people cared about your disease other than your family.
So for any of you who are not too ill, we need people who will speak up for liver patients. A major company wants to promote awareness of this disease but is having a hard time finding people to participate. We need more people to step up. This is a chance to play a positive role and not just wait to die praying for a transplant which won't come for most.
If not for yourself, consider being involved for your children or grandchildren who may be part of the 100 million with fatty liver disease, the first step on this road.
