A Year of OMAD Intermittent Fasting - Results from 3 Years of experiments.

Greetings! I'm sharing my story in hope it will help others.

375 days ago I decided to go all in, hard core, Intermittent Fasting with my final protocol.

My GOAL:

REDUCE FLUID RETENTION

REDUCE FAT

REDUCE PAIN LEVELS

BE AS HEALTHY AS POSSIBLE

I have a lot of pain from injuries and arthritis.

I have an extra 15-20 pounds of fat/fluid yet. I continue to lose a couple of pounds a month.

AFTER 2 YEARS OF EXPERIMENTS, I FOUND MY SOLUTION. I've been experimenting in this for 3 years now and am committed to:

NO GRAINS.

NO ALCOHOL

NO SUGAR (except the rare fruit)

APPLES OR BLUEBERRIES as fruits

LIMIT SALT

ZERO PROCESSED FOODS

My routine:

4 shots espresso on ice in morning

2-3:00 in the afternoon, I eat:

6-8 ounces (net) OF airfried chicken or steak or baked salmon

1 cup broccoli or asparagus or Brussels Sprouts or a side salad (Ceasars w/o croutons)

This usually appeases me but if I am hungry, I'll add more veggies and/or a cup of chicken broth.

MY PULSE IS 60, MY BP is 100/70

My BS IS PERFECT, MY PAIN IS BETTER CONTROLLED, I feel fabulous.

I have lost 25 pounds this last year.

Some fat, some fluid.

My doctor suggested a water retention reduction pill which I now take a couple of times a week. The first week, I lost ten pounds and then learned how to manage my salt and fluids better.

What I love:

No cravings

Better energy

Less pain

Easy to follow, more time for other things

Improved health

Much less expensive food costs and prep

Loved Not as much:

I do need to eat around 3 p.m.

I manage this when out with friends in that I'll get a side salad (not eating it nor veggies with my 3:00 pm meal.)

I thought I missed alcohol but really, it's the variety in something to drink. I try to find new teas to enjoy when my friends are imbibing. I can have a couple of drinks but find it's rarely worth it.

BEFORE YOU TALK ABOUT THIS BEING ADVERSE TO HEALTH-

I have done all of this under the care of a great doctor at one of the best hospitals in the world for 4 years.

They are so impressed by my great health, reduced inflammation, pain reduction, and ability to sustain this for years. (It's easy once you overcome cravings and see all your extra time and money spent as you wish!)

My family and friends know this is required for me to feel well and support me well.

I have had stage 4 ovarian cancer, a stroke, developed a seizure disorder from a car accident, shoulder reconstruction, 2 three- level spinal fusions, repeated bouts of pneumonia, and more, prior to 2010

I am more healthy now at age 60 than I have been in 14 years.

If you are thinking about IF, get Dr.Jason Fung's book The Obesity Code or The Diabetes Code. His YouTube Videos are fantastic. The Diet Doctors is an amazing site as well.

I live in America.

I think Robert J Kennedy, Jr will transform the food pyramid, reduce additives, and help people to become knowledgeable about IF- something that has been done around the world for thousands of years.

-----------------

I contrast my experience with my friend, age 62, who takes a bio-identical to Ozempic.

In the last year, she has spent $4500, lost 30 pounds of the 80 she needed to lose, and has stalled for 9 months.

She hasn't modified her behavior saying she can enjoy drinking, eating what she wants, etc.

I have grave concerns about these drugs. Everyone I know, gains all the weight back when they get off the drugs because they have not done behavior modifications.

Just yesterday, the Danes put out concerns of an eye issue when using Ozempic. What else will emerge?

Anyway, I wanted to share my story.

it’s always good to hear someone’s journey, what worked for them and what didn’t and why . The body seems more complicated than many would lead us to believe and I’m glad that you have found a solution that works for you.👏. I’m still looking for my solution. But I’m pleased for you.

My understanding of the drugs was that they were to give rapid weight loss and encouragement while life style and food choice was changed.

We all know that sustainable weight loss is hard. So full marks too you . 👍

Hello and thank you.

You are quite right, Arthrath, behavior modification is a primary aspect of the weight loss drugs. My understanding is is less than 10% go off the drugs and keep the weight off. Clearly, not enough to being done for a long term solution. I cannot believe these drugs will not be linked to other diseases or conditions. They are interfering with basic body functions.

Each person has their own journey.

Good luck to you.

I totally agree to your comments as I too have started on the IF OMAD 2 1/2 years ago. I live in Melbourne; was 63 years old when I started fasting.

I have since lose 16kg (89kg down to 73kg); my osteoarthritis knees weren’t giving me do much pain (still occasional pain with weather changes; healed of fatty liver without medication; more energy and my body never felt so good for a long while.

I’m not as disciplined as you are with total abstinence from carbs and grains (my weaknesses) That could be something I will try now.

I have stopped taking PPIs for GERD (recently diagnosed) and caring for my health through eating wholesome foods. There was a moment of doubt as whether IF OMAD has played a part with the recent diagnosed of inflammation of my esophagus (no acid reflux burning sensation, no heartburn; just inflammation seen in gastroscopy report).

I have a13mm gallstone and doc recommended gallbladder removal (surgery soon). Was wondering how my eating will affect my body after gallbladder has been removed. Whether I can continue with IF OMAD.
