I have been having just one meal a day most days for a month or so, but now I also joined a gym which is just at the end of my 22-24 hours of fasting.
Is anyone doing OMAD and going to the ... - Fasting and Furious
Is anyone doing OMAD and going to the gym during the fasting period?
SimoneHU
I will not rate my exercise activities as intense, but I do go to the gym during fasted state and use treadmill for about an hour- equivalent of walking about 4 - 5 miles. When not in the gym, I go for an hour-long-walk. I feel absolutely fine. Dr Jason Fung, one of the leading experts on fasting and metabolism explains the process in a much better way. I would encourage you to follow the link below written by JF, I found it very informative.
Enjoy your weight loss journey in a healthy way.
I'm another fasted exerciser.
I follow 16:8 fasting and typically exercise in the last 3 hours of the fast. I wouldn't say my exercise is super intensive - I'll run anything between 20-50 mins, then do some body strength exercises to finish my workout. It's enough to make my heart and lungs work harder, and to make me sweat
Some days are harder than others but I don't put that down to fasting. That happened before I'd even considered fasting. I wouldn't let that put you off going to the gym. Get down there and do your normal training program. As always, just listen to your body. If it doesn't feel right, there's no harm in stopping for the day.
I ran for 1 hr 15 in the middle of a 20 hr fast on Friday, it went well
Today I ran after my meal, felt less good, but some days are just like that I guess?
If you have not been losing weight fast ¿at more than a pound a week? Your glycogen reserves will keep you going, even for a few hours of intensitive exercise, and, after that, your exercise will be limited to the rate at which your body can access energy from fat.
I did a brisk 5km walk about 26 hours into a 44 hour fast... and it seemed enough.
On long endurance events you do have to eat - I cycled 760miles in 90 hours.
I met a man who lost 4½ stone in 50 days... dragging a sled to the South Pole!
Why are you fasting?
Weight-loss?
Longevity?
Inflammation?
General health benefits?
Bodybuilding? (getting lean)
¿Any other benefits anyone?
I am hoping to (help) prevent cancer recurrence and control my weight now that I am on a medication that causes weight gain. What about you?
Hi, SimoneHU thanks.
I am sorry you had cancer - and I hope (fasting will help) you stay cancer-free.
We would be lucky not to have relatives who have had cancer - but my late wife had mesothelioma (caused by asbestos)... I have wondered if fasting might have helped her?
I am sure you have done much research into the effect of fasting on cancer - has there been much research or written about it?
Preventing (or curing) cancer is a benefit of autophagy... which does not happen much until after 24 hours of fasting?
...and cancer cells cannot live on ketones, so ketosis helps fight cancer?
Are you on an LCHF or keto diet?
Have you done any longer fasts, or are you thinking you might try a 48 hour fast or two and then perhaps a 72-hour fast every month or so?
I am now at my target weight - but not eating in the afternoon or evening has become "normal" and enables me to maintain my target weight without having to be careful what I eat.
The theory is that fasting will help keep me lean, young and healthy (I am 70 this month).
You work for Health Unlocked? You have tools available to you for things like adding to the list of tags or topics that we can add to posts?
Glad to hear fasting is working for you, when did you start?
I just do fasting, no special diet apart from being vegetarian. I did 4 days fasts before my chemo sessions last year - a couple of studies suggested it could help with side effects. But since then I have only done shorter ones.
From what I looked, there is not a lot of research on fasting for cancer, certainly not enough to call it medical evidence. I do it because I want to do something to improve my odds, even if just for the placebo effect. I do plan on doing longer ones again, but I just don’t have the same (fear driven) motivation as before. Maybe I first need to get to a point where not eating during the day feels normal?
Yes, I work for HealthUnlocked. What tags are you missing? We know we have A LOT of work to do on those, I hope we can pick that up soon.
Hi SimoneHU
I'm wondering if you have read any about Dr. Goldhamer's work at True North Center in CA. He does supervised water fasting - long term up to 40 days for patients with significant medical conditions including cancer. Here's a link:

Wishing you the best!
Hi, SimoneHU
I started fasting almost a year ago, and gradually narrowed my eating window to get to 20:4
Few make money out of fasting - but, hopefully, there will be research re the long-term (and short-term) benefits of fasting.
Yes, it will help when you to get to a point where not eating during the day feels normal!

I will start a new post on this, so most members will see it and will chip in with their suggestions.
