This may seem obvious but its important to prepare ourselves both physically and mentally for any challenge. Fasting is challenging as its to change our attitude and relationship with food including what we eat and how we perceive food. I often think the physical side of any challenge is catered for but sadly the psychological aspect is ignored, when its vitally important for us to achieve our goals to be in the right mental frame of mind so that we can cope with the stresses on our body and mind so we see temptation and distractions for what they are.
So here's an interesting article about preparing ourselves for fasting.
I thought that we promoted Intermittent Fasting, not Fasting?
The article makes a mountain out of a molehill... anyone can start "Not Eating All Day" any day... just cut out snacks and set a time in the evening after which you do not eat!
Hi S11m, please see from the About Fasting and Furious page:
What we do
Fasting and Furious is a community to chat about fasting and support others who know what hanger feels like! This includes, but isn't limited to: intermittent fasting (IF), alternate day fasting (ADF), one meal a day fasting (OMAD) as well as other kinds of fasting for health and wellbeing. Please note that if you have any underlying health conditions, it's important you consult a health care professional before making a dramatic change to your diet. We are all learning together - you are very welcome.
I am aware that 21-day water fasts can, under medical supervision, benefit people with certain medical conditions... but I thought that we might be trying to avoid putting people off the idea of "fasting", and encouraging people to start "Not Eating All Day" and gradually transitioning themselves into "no-complications" Intermittent Fasting?
Thanks once again Jerry, another interesting article. Iβm still IF which my my body and mind has become accustomed to it. It really has helped with the binge eating because I know that after a certain time I can and will no longer eat. Iβm more in control of what and when I eat and plan ahead too. Itβs actually pleasing to know that tomorrow is another day and that βthat foodβ can be eaten then and not forced down my gob all in one go in one day.
IF initially started off as a tool to lose weight but it has ended up being the tool that has helped me combat bingeing - who knew?
Thanks for saying this MissAzzee, IF can help reset our attitude to food so we see food for what it really is our energy source, so again it is great that it has helped you and is helping you. π
