Second week into Bells Palsey that affected left side of face. On prednisone at moment. All of a sudden, at end of 10 days, started getting terrible pain and burning behind ear and down neck with a bit of swelling. Has anyone else had this happen?

This is obviously causing you distress. It would be a good idea to book an appointment with your GP and ask him/her to look in your ears and mouth to rule out any other infection.

I didn’t have pain with the BP until the second week when it became unbearable initially only at night but then during the day as well. I was prescribed amitryptiline (specific for nerve pain) but it didn’t touch it. Went back to 8/500mg (over-the-counter) codeine and paracetamol and pain gradually lifted. Am nearly three weeks in, no longer taking prednisone or painkillers, and my face is definitely improving. Will see doctor tomorrow for checkup - also optician because not convinced my (still unblinking) eye is fully functional. Good luck!

Hi, I had the same two years ago the pain behind my ear really hurt though it did go away shortly after I regained movement in my face after three weeks.

I continued to take B12 vitamins (1000ug) one tablet per day I think that it helped the nerve repair faster thought not sure if there is any medical evidence but I did this never the less.

Remain positive you will get through this though avoid any stressful work or situations as it drains your energy.

Don’t suffer in silence seek help from the medics they will get you through
