Neck pain?? Is it normal??

I’m dealing with BP for the 5th time. This time around I am having so much pain in my neck. I keep explaining this to my doctor, and he keeps telling me that I slept wrong or pulled a muscle. This pain started 2 days before the BP came on, so is it related to it? In the past I had a lot of ear pain, and some head pain, never neck pain. Is this normal??

I got BP 2 years ago this month. I honestly feel like there aren’t enough doctors who know much about it. I still have on going pains that come and go in my affected side. I get pain in my neck, my head feels like it’s numb for days and I also get ear pains. I think our nerves might be a bit more sensitive than the unaffected side. I always feel like I’m going to get it again and I fear I’m going to wake up with it.. I try to stay as positive as I can. I recommend taking Olive green extract.

Thank you so much for your information. In the past I knew when it was coming on, my face would begin to twitch. Especially my nose, it literally looked like a little bunny nose (it would twitch so much, that others could see it). I have to say this time is the most different for me, this neck pain has been the worst. I will be looking into the Olive green extract. Again, thank you so much.

Hello. I have had 6 major BP episodes and several mini ones. I quite often get a pain in my neck on the affected side a few days before. I take it as a warning sign and try my best to rest up. It usually disappears as I start to recover. But we are all different and how our bodies react can be different, especially as there are several possible causes. Make a note of it and see if you notice it again. If you are still worried, speak to your GP again, try and make them understand. Take care.

Thank you for replying, it really helps to know others that have gone through this. In the past my GP sent me to a neurologist to try to figure out why I have contined to get this. I reside in the US, and the few doctors I have seen here have never really encountered anyone who has had it more than twice. Reading through here and seeing that there are others who have dealt with this as much as I have makes me feel not so alone. I will continue to try and take is easy, and keep in mind that you told me your discomfort subsided. Going to try and stay positive, and hope that this will be the same for myself. Thank you again for your input, and for telling me a little about yourself. Take care

I have had BP for 3 years, treatment for just over 2 years. I’m in the Uk and attend a specialist clinic, where I have regular physio and treatment. I have pain which on my affected side runs from behind my ear , down my neck and also is made worse when a muscle in my lower jaw cramps (it’s not fun!). The physio treats it as all part of the BP, ie it’s not unusual to have neck pain.

It was explained to me that the face has multiple muscles, this and the extent of the facial nerve affected by BP can cause pains through the neck too. I find heat and massage at home helps, anything that relaxes it is a good thing.
