hello all, we are on day 32 of max dose (8 sachets) and still not there, have senna (5ml) at night for 20 days also; 3yr old and history of withholding which is still doing now even on this regime. Is this unusual to take so long? We have had some huge watery gushes in last few days but also some thick sludgy stuff which seems fresh poo, she’s still eating normally so I don’t understand how it would ever get to rusty tea? Advice please!

day 32 on max dose…

Very similar experience here so we can relate. Day 39 max dose movicol (10) and picasulphate. Some watery tea but not more than 2 in a row and no consistent pattern. Will have to stop at some point as our son (4.5) is in school and it's v. hard work getting movicol into him before and after school. We've been advised we need to see watery tea for 2 days. I can't believe we're ever going to get there but also don't want to stop without getting there, having invested iso much effort!
have you spoken to your paediatrician? This sounda like a long time to be disimpacting. They say sometimes you don’t get to rusty tea ??
Speak to your health care professional
I would go to the GP today and get some advice. It sounds like you have got there now and can begin the maintenance dose but please see a health professional and see what they say 🙂
We're getting regular advice from continence service and have been urged to keep going as long as possible to get rusty tea but we've decided to go maintenance now as we've all had enough. Seems there is a lot of variance in advice given by paediatricians Gps and continence nurses

Dear ToddlerPoo We would recommend going back to your health care provider for your child to be assessed and progress reviewed, to decide on next steps and whether medications need adjusting. Do make sure that she is also drinking 900-1000ml per day , spread evenly through the day, in addition to the laxatives. best wishes, ERIC
