2.5 year old withholds but even small amount of laxido causes soiling.

Our toddler has been withholding /using laxido for 10months now. We got to a good place but in the last two months the soiling has been more constant and we could tell he was withholding daily but still managing a big poo a couple of times a week.

We decided to take him off the laxido and this helped the soiling and every 4 days he would do a big poo sat on the potty and probably another the next day and then nothing for 4 days. The big poo would clearly scare him while he was pushing and would almost splat out of him. We put him back on laxido to see if that would help the pain and on a very small does and straight away the soiling has happened again. It is extremely unlikely he is impacted as he does go regularly and quite large amounts. It’s as though when he is on the laxido it’s constantly making him want to go.

We are getting really worried that this is going to be a long term issue and grateful for any advice.

You need to disimpact him, and find a suitable maintenance dose to remain on afterwards. If he is witholding then adding a stimulant laxative will also help.

I agree with the person who has commented already. It sounds like constipation that needs a disimpaction followed by the maintenance dose. You said he poos large amounts which is a key indicator of constipation. There is hope though, my 7 year old is no longer on laxatives after lots of hard work over the last 3 years.
