soiling help!

my 4 year old daughter has been on laxido since nov 21. We have done a disimpaction in April and a maintainence dose of 2 sachets a day.

Following disimpaction the soiling had reduced significantly stil some small stains but not compared to before. Gradually this got worse again and back up to 5/6 badly soiled pants. She does poo everyday and will do toilet sits willingly but the soiling still occurs. Nurse thought perhaps she was too loose and reduce her down to 1 sachet a day but then the pooing frequency reduced and the wetting started again.

I am currently in the middle of a another disimpaction on first day of 8 sachets. I am looking for some advice what to do once we have disimpacted so that I am not back in the same situation again in 4 months. She starts preschool in a few weeks and I want her to have the best start.

Apologies for the essay!

Make sure you disimpact fully, ie you achieve watery stools with no lumps consistently for 3 days before you start reducing the doses down extremely slowly ie one sachet every 3 days until you reach a suitable maintenance dose to remain on. If they are potty trained encourage regular toilet sits after every meal. The key is disimpacting effectively and allowing the bowel to shrink back to its correct size which can take time.

Hello, after a couple of disimpactions that failed because I ended both too soon, we used 8 sachets daily for months and months until we got to the rusty watery poo stage. It was 3rd time lucky for us and I didn't want to stop until I was certain. We slowly moved down to 3 sachets as our maintenance, but now I feel our 4.5 year old needs 2.5 sachets a day to strike the right balance between soft and too wet, hard to work out the correct balance. We also introduced Picosulphate during the disimpaction once all was moving softly. Reception starts for our son in September. I kept him in his childcare setting instead of going to nursery at school to concentrate on his poo troubles last year. I hope this disimpaction works for your daughter. It's tough going.
