Disimpaction

Hi

My daughter has suffered from constipation since she was 5 years old, she is now 11 years old & she is doing a disimpaction routine because an ultrasound back in June showed a significant amount of constipation & the consultant was concerned about it affecting her bladder & kidneys. We started on the 23rd July & I am trying to work out when to stop, she has got to the stage of pooing rusty water, with little bits in it & but this morning her first poo was brown water with no bits, then she ate some banana pancakes & chocolate spread a little bit later & the next bowel movement was sludgy. This is the first day she hasn't been on 12 sachets, I was going to carry on with the maintenance dose, so far she has had 2 sachets & I was going to just do another 2. How do I know if she has been cleared out ? & when to stop ? Cannot get through to her consultant & have tried the Eric helpline numerous times this week, but there is no answer.

You need to keep going until you reach watery stools with no lumps consistently for 3 days before you start reducing the doses down extremely slowly ie one sachet every 3 days until you reach a suitable maintenance dose to remain on.
