3yr old - On and off constipation - but manageable - when is she “cured”

My almost 4 year old, has been signed off from the GP, as we seemed to have cracked the case of ongoing chronic constipation...

She had movicol for a year, now on a v low maintenance amount & use senna a few times a week at a small dosage when needed.

Some weeks - even months she’s so regular, goes 5 times a week. Then, it changes and we have a week of constipation where she doesn’t go for days and days. I can often link this “bad” week to something - ie, holiday, so usual meals and drinks change, or a change in circumstances, ie started pre school.

GP is very good, she was happy that we manage this ourselves, and says that some people are more prone to it & is happy my child isn’t soiling, distressed etc.

Just want to hear from other parents - did anyone have a long journey like this? With some good months and some tougher weeks, but then come out the other end? Fully cured?!? Do I always have to keep a poo diary? Will I always be reminding her to sit and try for a poo?

It’s tiring. Whilst I’m grateful that she isn’t struggle most of the time, it’s still one of my worries & a source of anxiety.

Yes we had the same, changes when she was on holiday, no diet change just a regular routine, she lives 50/50 so has taken a very long time to get her straight we'v got their in the end. She barely needed movicol just a good diet and routine. Sweet corn fig biscuits and now she's 6 i'v tried to explain in basics about listening to her bady.

Same here - been a long journey which we’re not at the end of yet sadly but when it’s okay it’s manageable. But any change in routine and it’s gets harder! Dreading Christmas now…

You can get the fig biscuits any shop or supermarket, i get ours from aldi, they all so have fibre bars in the cereal ilse section. Pop corn is suppose to be good too. Its hard to have a routine in the holidays. So long as he eats and drinks plenty you'll be fine. X
