Reducing picosulphate

Wishingforcleanpants profile image

Has anyone got any tips on coming off picosulphate? We thought we’d done a good slow reduction .5ml every few days but we now seem to be going backwards again. I can’t for the life of me figure out if she is over medicated or under medicated and it feels like we are heading back to daily accidents which I thought we’d left behind. We started reducing as she was having accidents at the end of the day and reduced on advice of incontinence nurses. Now feel like I have no idea what I’m doing. She’s going to be 7 this month and I was really hoping we’d be done with all this by now 😭

Is this post disimpaction or because they are passing stools without any issues? How long have they been on the pico? Are they on any other medication to help them go? How long have they been on it for?

Thanks for replying. She was on movicol dissection then maintenance with picosulphate and then stopped movicol on advice of nurses. Then as she started having runny accidents in the evenings it was suggested to cut down gradually which we did but then she started having accidents again several times a week when it had become a rarity. Now I feel like I don’t know whether it’s the pico causing problems or not. We tried stopping it the restarting but no difference. I really don’t want to go back to the start again but we might just have to to know where we stand…. Sorry for rant

Sounds like you need to be back on the movicol and dismpact again.
