7yo son doesn’t notice he’s wet

Hi, new here though used ERIC site for years. We initially thought his day weeing was ok (quite regularly a little wet but we always justified it as dribbles) but was never dry at night. When speaking to school nurse about night wetting the questions she asked and our answers led her to say he does have day problems as he goes far too frequently and urgently. So we started oxybutnin which seemed to help. We are trying to come off it and wetness is back. What we are struggling with is we are the ones to notice accidents, our son seems clueless that a) he weed and b) he’s been sitting in wet pants. Really finding it hard to understand this. Any other experience like this, or advice?

Hi, my daughter is nearly 10 and has been wetting at night and daytime accidents too, but like you, put it down to other things. She will swear blind she’s not wet when I can clearly see she is. Only when I pull her up on it does she concede she’s wet. I’m not sure if this denial or that she really doesn’t feel it or perhaps isn’t bothered by the wet sensation 🤷‍♀️ I’ve no idea. Has anyone suggested constipation as a root cause? The consultant has insisted we rule this out before anything else. We started on a low dose of laxative and a few weeks in she’s had no daytime wetting and seems dry and night almost mist nights now. I would never have considered this as the problem as it was urine not poo that seemed to be our nemesis.

Thanks I have heard constipation can be a cause. I don’t think he is but I’ve also heard it can be tricky to spot so I will look further into this. Thank you!

Exactly as you say…. I didn’t think my daughter was constipated either, but I now believe she was mildly, but enough to cause issues with pushing on her bladder etc. Worth considering. I hope you find a good solution. X
