My 5 year old needs to pee every 30-40 minutes, often soaking his trousers multiple times a day. He is on movicol in case he is constipated. We have seen a paediatrician and a urologist both of whom advise that he should pee every 2 hours.
I'm so confused. My son can't hold it more than 30 minutes but they write down "encourage him to pass urine at regular 2 hour intervals" What I am not understanding? I am so confused.

Hi, these are the instructions we were given which have been very successful.......so you need to start at him having a wee every 30 minutes, and do this for 3 days, during this time he should have small regular drinks of water, NO big drinks (my son would have a small drink after every wee and a vibrating watch to remind him to go or I would set a timer on my phone). Then when he's managing the 30 mins increase the time, this should be on day 4, if he's doing well go to 40 mins, if he's only just making it then go to 35mins. Then do that for another 3 days and then increase the time again by 5 or 10 mins. It's hard work but my son was like yours and we're now on 1hr 20mins. As the time increases you'll need to slightly increase the size of the drinks to make sure he's getting the right amount of water throughout the day (there is a guide to say how much children should drink based on their age) I measure this amount of water out into a jug and then spread it out evenly throughout the day stopping an hour and a half before bedtime). If he can't manage the 30mins at the start go down to 25mins. Also, make sure he's not constipated if you can, at least one soft bowel movement daily. If he's constipated he'll struggle and you may need to do a disimpaction before starting. Good luck!
Dear Teddy500, Thank you for taking the time to reply. I honestly thought I was going a bit mad, as couldn't find any advice on how to get from 30 minutes to "2 hours". It's really encouraging to hear that you are on the other side.
