We’ve been on maintenance Movicol 1/day for my 3 year old & made great progress. She’s been withholding lately & we’ve now gone 5 days without a poo. So, I increased the Movicol to 1.5 for the last 2 days (ie when we got to 3rd day of no poo). Was planning to give 2 sachets today but am now wondering if it’s best to just get her unblocked quickly & as Movicol takes days to get into system & do it’s magic, will a suppository or a laxative be best? Have a GP call at 5pm where I’m asking the above / trying to urgently get a prescription. But interested in thoughts from others. I appreciate I could just give her lactulose myself now and see a quick result. Reluctant to go to a dramatic Movicol number as she’s not impacted long term, just from last 5 days... thank you
5 days of withholding... do I increase Movicol or nee... - ERIC
5 days of withholding... do I increase Movicol or need suppository or laxative?

I would keep on with the movicol and add a stimulant such as senna to the regime. Lactulose is a stool softener like movicol, how ever senna will stimulate the bowels which is what you need.
Could you give her some foods to help her a bit until you get some extra medicine. Prunes, pears, oats ect. Then a good run around and deep warm bath sometimes works with my three year old. We do give her an extra sachet if shes gone off her usual routine though.
Good luck
Thanks for the reply. Sadly we try / tried all & doesn’t seem to make a difference. Fortunately she went yesterday afternoon, I think the increased Movicol must’ve got through to her system by then. Pleased to not have needed extra medication. How quickly do you give your extra sachet? Ie, no poo one day so give it then? Or wait until a couple of no poo days?
