Hi We are just starting the disimpaction process with our daughter (8) who has suffered with soiling and constipation since she was about 3. I know we are going to have massive battles getting the dosage plus liquid on top down her, but I wondered how people deal with going to school on high doses? We have a 2 week window now during the Easter holidays, but I really don't want to keep her off after this years disruptions if not necessary. If we are on a high dose still then (as looking at others experience I expect we will be), will it be feasible to go to school?
Also how fast do you reduce the dose once rusty water is being passed and after how many movements like this?
Thanks

Once you reach the rusty water looking poo stay there for three consecutive days before you start reducing the doses down very slowly i.e. 12,12,12,11,11,11,10,10,10 and so on until you reach a suitable maintenance dose that produces type 4 stools on the Bristol Stool Chart. As for school there is a template you can print off from the Eric website to give to the school explaining why you need to keep them off if you do so. If not then speak to the school about what you are doing, encourage regular toilet sits after every meal and put a panty liner in the underwear to capture any accidents and pack spare clothes for them to take to school.
After a period of a week, you can request a stimulant such as senna to add to the regime, this is as per the NICE guidelines which your GP should be following.
