Regressive behaviour with renewed incontinence

Our foster daughter has just started regressive behaviour. When she came to us in December she had not been potty trained, we are family number 7 for her. (She will be 5yr next week!)

We got her clean and dry, day and night before lockdown started, but by June she had lost the ability to remember for herself. Now that school has started again, she has no continence at all, and just runs around all day in soiled, wet pants.

She has also started to babble in baby talk and 'forgotten' how to do many skills she had learnt. She has become wilful and defiant about many things too.

Hi I am a foster carer and had a 12 year old boy who came to us soiling. It took a year from disimpaction to get his bowel healthy and working. It sounds like she had started to trust you and is able to show you her distress and upset now with her behaviours she will not be able to verbalise her trauma so is showing you . This is positive although hard for you to manage. We went to the continence clinic for support rather than doctors. They know much more. Please ask your supervising social worker for support and remember you are doing a great job xx best wishes.
