Cosmocol sachets and how to encourage toddler to take them?

My son of 3 years has had issues since June 2019. We have been put on cosmocol and have 4 sachets a day. We thought the issue was going away as we were rarely having sachets so we started potty training and we have now gone what feels like back to the beginning. It's bitter sweet, the sachets make my son's belly go crazy and he is in agony when he takes them, it's so difficult to tell a 3 yr old it's helping their belly when they are in pain as soon as they've drunk it. Just wondering how other people manage to get their child to drink the sachets and what physical reaction does it give the child within the first 30 mins of taking it. I feel like I'm poisoning my own child when I give them to him, i hate it.

As long as you mix it with the correct amount of water first you can add it to anything else afterwards, jellies, Yoghurts, gravy, porridge, smoothies. Some children don't like the cosmocol f flavour, you could ask for movicol or chocolate flavoured movicol.

My daughter has been on medication for bowel issues for nearly 3 years now. We started on movicol (which she loved) then the doctor changed us to cosmocol. She initially hated the taste but has become used to it. I did add the sachet to fresh orange to disguise the taste, then in dilute juice. I found that after her being on 4 sachets a day for a period of time she got stomach pains. I reduced her to 3 a day for a few days then 2 a day. I’ve found for my child that 2 a day works perfectly for her now. And she “goes” everyday. Maybe you could go back to your GP and discuss what they recommend. My daughter is 10 now and each time we stop the sachets we go back to square one with her. I hope you can find a balance for your little one soon. X

I make it up according to the instructions then put a dash of squash in it. My daughter has cosmocol but you can get an unflavoured equivalent. She is on a maintenance dose of 2 sachets a day and I only increase it if she gets clogged up. She has no side effects at all after drinking it. Higher doses can make her bloated and farty and give her a slight tummy ache, but not straight after drinking.
