10 year old day 4 disimpaction

Looking for some advice. My 10 yr old has had 7 episodes of lower right abdo pain since the start of December and admitted into our local hospital twice. An ultrasound the first time picked up swollen lymph nodes in his lower bowel area. A CT scan on the 2nd admission showed poo in his lower rectum. We were advised to start disimpaction and today marks 10 sachets. My question is, how much pain is ok? The pain he has had with this has always be sharp stabbing pains which are through the roof today. He is having small liquidy poos every hour or so. Although very loose, they are still pooy rather than watery. I’m reluctant to go to 12 tomorrow whilst he is in this much pain. My eldest has delayed bowel emptying due to hypermobility syndrome and whenever he has had pain, it’s been cramping rather than a stabbing type pain. Anyone shed any light?

Hi there ,

My little girl age 9 has had two disimpactions ( one in hospital) . She has had on and off constipation for years and bouts of sharp stabbing pains/ twisting pains/ cramps etc ..,last October she was off school a lot , and in a lot of pain.

She has now tested positive for a wheat allergy but is also intolerant of lots of foods such as onion/ brocolli/ crisps / fatty meats . We saw a private gastric doctor who put her on potato only for four days ... then chicken breast and potato .

We are now following a low FODMAP diet and slowly introducing different foods one group at a tine .... a solution for people with ibs .

This has worked really well . She has complete runs of pain free days and her night bed wetting stops . When we try a new food group , if it doesn’t agree with her she gets tummy pains four - six hours after eating and wets the bed .

Apparently if you have faeces stuck in the lower colon it will press on the bladder and prevent you being dry at night .

If we follow the low fodmap diet her whole body seems to respond positively However it is apparently important that you continue to test other food groups to keep the diet as varied as possible and keep a balance of bacteria’s in the gut .

There are many books out there and I can let you know the two books I have just read if you are interested in reading around this subject . There are also lots of dieticians that can guide you but I am doing it myself at the moment .

For us it has been a complete game changer .

Thanks for the reply. I kept on the movicol regime and we are on day 2 of 12. We still haven’t reached the rusty tea stage but his pain does seem to have reduced a little.

He has had a vega test in the past which is a controversial non invasive intolerance test. We drastically reduced cows milk and white wheat from his diet for a good 9 months and there was some improvement. We did relax things slightly over the summer, ice creams and treats mainly so I wonder if this flare up is a result of that.

We’ve been refused an allergen test on the NHS but I will look into a private appointment.

Here are the books that may be worth a read .

Rechallenging and reintroducing fodmap s by Lee Martin

The complete low Fodmap Diet

Dr Sue Shepherd

They may be worth a read as there are some other key groups along side wheat ( grain) and lactose related .

We paid £900 in total for prick and blood tests and the result was a mild wheat allergy / hay fever ...

Yet still at the moment she is totally intolerant to a lot of foods that don’t show up on those tests .... so it’s a lot to pay out unless you feel strongly about going that route first .

We found that movicol took about three days to work but in large amounts it can apparently can also irritate the tummy .

Obviously all of our cases our different and individual .

Good luck with it all
