4.6 yr old DS still withholding his poo during the day.

Hi All

An update on our son who has been withholding his poo in the day for months now and seems to be comfortable pushing it out in his nappy sometime during the night, he wears an all in one sleep suit so would be difficult to change him during the night as this would unsettle his sleep pattern.

However another issue has now come up that when I go in the morning and change him out of his overnight cloth nappy he has lately started to tell me that he likes the feeling of the poo in his nappies, says its warm and squishy and resists been changed, I can’t let him not be in a nappy overnight as he is also a heavy wetter.

He is wee trained during the day but continues to withhold, but if he is starting to like the poo feeling then this could be going on and on.

Any advice would be appreciated. x

I heard advice on the radio that sometimes it can be good for kids to know what their peers are doing. Sometimes in a pre-school a talk can be given that may discuss various issues in a sensitive way. Your son may be getting to an age that he might want to copy his peers by doing poos in the potty/toilet. He mightn’t like the feel in his nappy if he realises his friends are not doing it. May not be any use but thought I’d share. The bed wetting complicated things for you, hope you get some advice about that. We’ve only had issues with poo with holding. Best of luck.
