Hi everyone, new here my son has suffered with constipation since he was a baby and will only poo about once every 2-3 weeks. GPs recommended disimpaction and we started Fri but I can only get him upto 6 sachets a day. Whatever I put it in he says he can taste it he describes it as salty water. Will it still work on 6 and not the 8 adult sachets it recommends. We have had our 1st diahorrea poo today
Thanks

Are they on adult or paediatric? 6 adult sachets are equivalent to 12 paediatric which is the recommended disimpaction dosage. You can add them to anything else once you have mixed it up with the correct amount of water first. I would keep it in the fridge as it is more palatable that way. Also ensure that they drink plenty of water on top of the movicol as this does not count towards the daily allowance of fluids.
I also have a 12 yr old who has had constipation/encopresis since toilet training - now only does mega poos once a week or so.
It took a long time to get proper advice but we have now done disimpaction a few times and attempted to find and sustain the maintenance dose. I have found that she has got used to the taste but can be very resistant to taking sachets- as well as trying regularly for a poo, eating fibre rich diet and taking sufficient fluids and giving me any feedback about stool quality/frequency etc. It has become a source of conflict which I try not to enflame.
Good luck with the process - hopefully your son is more co-operative than my daughter! Definitely good to use the summer holidays to get on track!!
