Bowel impactation child
Yes but regular disimpactions (dare I say it) have worked for us with a good toileting plan in place.
Hi sorry to jump on this can I ask what toileting plan you have in place? I have an almost 4 year old who is continuing to struggle!
We've been sitting my youngest ( who's 8) on the toilet 20 minutes after every meal for 5 minutes for over 3 years now. It used to be every meal for a long time and the school were very supportive. Put their feet on a still so their muscles are relaxed and get them to blow balloons, bubbles or whistles etc. Make the toilet entertaining and fun but blowing helps to push the stool out. Regular disimpacting has helped too.
He only sits on the toilet in the morning and evening now with a phone etc as he's a lot better so it's just trying to keep him on the toilet. He has a distended bowel which we've been told will take 2 years to go back to normal and that's 2 years of no constipation!!! We're 10 months down the line now so I'm hoping we're on the way to being sorted.
We've had problems since July 2014. It's been a very long, lonely and stressful journey for us so I can empathise with you totally. It's awful to go through.
My son gets embarrassed about it now but as I say I'm hoping we're on our way up now. He's still in pull ups at night as we can't help him through the night until we know he's completely dry during the day.
Thank you so much, that is all so helpful. I would love to get things sorted with my daughter before she starts school so fingers crossed!
I hope it is sorted for your son soon x
We have that aswell and try to go regular but we have overflow issue and a lot he doesn’t know it’s happened until it’s too late
If they have constipation the child can lose the feeling of needing to go to the toilet. My two sons have Hypermobility which can affect the bowels and slow them down. Both of my boys have had problems but regular disimpactions have helped.
My 11 year old had overflow but we disimpacted him during the summer holidays and he was better. We're just about to disimpact him again during half term. I don't want him having overflow at secondary school.
My daughter has leaks when the poo has built up again. Maybe have a good clear out, get to the specialists as GPs dont always tell you the right way to do it.
Maybe it has returned so use Movicol again. Have you tried massaging his feet ? This can stimulate peristalsis.
Hi my son has hypermobility syndrome he is 6 years old he has been suffering with Constspation since birth he is under different consultants at the hospital when he gets to impacted he will end up in hospital he’s on movicol picosolphate and senna everyday I have tried everything you have mentioned above to train his bowel he seen a specialist at the Rvi they have suggested he needs a stoma bag putting on Hope this helps a little for you
