How supportive does everybody find their childs school? My daughters starts in a couple of weeks and I can envisage me leaving work everyday to clean up her poo accident?

My son’s school has been very supportive. He had a care plan in place before he started because he had a recognised condition (overactive bladder) and was under a consultant. Through the years (we are about to start yr5), there have been a couple of teachers/assistants who decided it was behavioural 🙄, but on the whole I can’t complain. My son’s medication can sometimes cause constipation, which leads to overflow and soiling accidents. In those situations there is a caveat in his care plan that says I will deal with it. Basically, if he can’t clean himself up, then I am called to come and sort it out. This has only happened twice since he started school though. There have been other poopcidents, but he just hasn’t told anyone. Do you have a care plan in place? If so, does it specify when you will be called?

I contacted the school via email before my son started last year to explain (he was soiling daily and it was quite major, and he had only just moved under a consultant after over a year of pushing). The school were great and told me they'd dealt with everything before and that they would help him clean up when needed as long as I was happy with that. I just kept clean clothes, nappy bags for soiled items and wipes at the school. The problem for me was that he would quite frequently come home dirty as he didn't like to tell them when he needed changing. However, when they did know, they always helped him with no judgment. He's moving into a new class now, obviously, so we'll see how it goes, although the issue is less intense now and a little more intermittent.

You should not be called in to deal with it. Basically it is a legal requirement for them to have a care plan in place to deal with this. I would be talking to them asap. Meeting with head and SENCO as to what the plan is. They would have to do this if parents both work out of area...don't let them take the mickey.
