Soiling - constipation or habit

How can you differentiate between soiling due to constipation or if your child just pooing themselves.

I posted the other day about increasing dosage & behaviour (post - here we go again)

I’ve upped the dose and she’s passed some “proper” poos but we’ve also had soiling. Not the hard gritty bits or a bit of leaking but bigger accidents.

She’s won’t tell us when she’s soiled, and when I ask her when it happened she has a melt down. It’s only recently she’s been leaving it and not telling us or not getting herself cleaned up. I’m now starting to wonder if the soiling is from the constipation (although soiling has happened after proper poos)or if it’s habit. (I know sensation can be lost but soiling is at its worst at the moment.)

We’ve tried reward charts, toilet time (which is a battle) we’ve talked to her and explained about toilet time, self care etc. (She’s 5 1/2)

Morning, I’m in the same boat, my 4year old as had the movical for being constipated and passed some stuff ( exhausted know by the word poo) she has being having two sachets a day which has been constant trips to the loo as she has just being messing her underwear and have to go back to her having a pull up on as I was running out of knickers. So I cut it down to one a day and still the same even at school, but familiar to your child she won’t tell me when she has done it, she can be in the mess for sometime. My child has also melt downs when getting her on the loo and changing. We did struggle with toilet training her and would hide somewhere and the tell me she had done the deed!! Im off to see the health visitor Friday to see if I can get some help/answer cause I’m losing the plot with it. X

Thank you for replying.

It’s so frustrating and hard not to get angry when she’s having a meltdown and refusing to go to the loo.

I hope your appointment goes well, let me know how you get on

Hi were in the same boat. Apparently it's the bowel if they have with held their bowels sometimes it leaks and over fills so accidents will happen.girls get embarrassed the gp told us not to stress about it or make a issue as it's their brain it has to train their bowels correctly.. My daughter still passing fluid never had a bowel motion..
