Ok so my son is on day 5 of 12 sachets of movicol tomorrow. I got bisocodyl suppositories from the GP today and he tried one tonight....nothingšŸ™ Iā€™m also giving him Senna once a day. I canā€™t use picasulphate as it causes his gastritis. Heā€™s totally blocked, nothing is coming out. Im going to try to get hold of gastroenterologist tomorrow and Iā€™m taking him to see a chiropractor for the first time tomorrow. I just wanted to see if any of you guys had any ideas of what else to try? GP said he can stay on 12 sachets for 2/3 more days. He has 4 more suppositories to take. But then what?!! Argh...any ideas welcome šŸ¤—

My daughter is 7. She's been on movicol for 3years, she's also had senna, dulcolax, been in hospital 5times to be emptied out and had bysicodal..she's having a stoma fitted soon. only now I'm getting somewhere as she's under great Ormond Street hospital, have you been referred there? I live in Wales it's worth the travel to gosh they are amazing. The docters down here made her wait and wait without anything. I complained to doctors a lot to get where iam with her now

Thank you so much for replying. Thatā€™s so helpful to hear. Iā€™ve considered pushing for a referral to GOSH or similar but thought I would wait 6 months and see where we get to. (That was before latest impaction). I really donā€™t want him to go to hospital for any more high enemas as they cause him so much dreadful pain and Iā€™m sure they have contributed to his loss of bowel control (he had 4/5 high enemas in hospital in a period of a month). If things donā€™t improve I will push for a referral onwards. Thank you!

I suggest not wait, because the referral will take time and to get appointments is another nightmare. Go for the referral, if things are improved then nice, otherwise you don't wait your time. My son was in the same situation and we waited a long time to get an appointment with a doctor at the hospital.

Best of luck

I waited 11days for the referral to get accepted then it's 6weeks wait for appointments but less than what I have to wait in Wales. Yes my daughter's had enemas and all sorts don't think it's done her any help either

I feel for you and your daughter and hope the stoma gives her relief. Iā€™m dreading going back to hospital but if thatā€™s what it takes...some people have posted before about klen prep I think, I donā€™t know if you have any experience of that?

She's had klean prep 4 times never works 100% then she fills back up so stoma is the only way forward now x

Thank you for that. It must have been such a relief for you to get to GOSH and finally get a proper treatment plan. My son is very affected by it all, I had definitely seen improvement but feels worrying right now, really donā€™t want to be back to square one šŸ˜–

How old is your Son?

In my experience in clinic, children who are very blocked often only start to see any progress about day 6 or 7, so about day 2 of 12 sachets. You can take 12 sachets for 4 or 5 days if needed.Make sure you are on at least 7.5mg of senna. Plenty of drinks.

Depending on where you live, the Bladder and Bowel clinic at Evelina childrens' hospital is fabulous.

Update...Been to see amazing chiropractor who spent an hour manipulating his body. She puts his issues down to the difficult birth he had. She said the impaction has affected his organs, nervous system, joints and he has loads of toxins in him and it is a very acute case. Since coming home heā€™s managed to pass a bit of stool on the loo and is now in the bath. I will post again in a new post if this woman brings my son relief. If it works (in the way I suspect itā€™s going to based on today) then I will be shouting from the rooftops!!

Thank you for posting about the chiropracter as i was thinking of taking my son and saying how difficult births could cause an impact on this.

Don't know if this helps. My son is currently on 7 movicol as a maintenance dose and he is blocking up and basically not going. They have introduced ducosate for about 7-10 days. It appears we are getting some movement. It is a stimulant and a softener. Perhaps It is worth asking about. He is taking 30ml a day in conjunction with the Movicol . It is under guidance I think for children under 12.

Mini update.....my son is now at his dads and had bisocodyl suppository and then went on the loo and apparently loads came out (he flushed it away and denied it but his dad said there was loads!!)

I know the chiropractor appt has made a massive difference. When he got up this morning he did a little dance at one point and wasnā€™t wailing in agony. Iā€™m sure thereā€™s still lots to come but thank God the process has started. Chiropractor has given him another appt tomorrow evening as heā€™s so acute. Anyone who wants her name, msg me privately on here. She has also trained in sacro-occipital therapy for 5 years so I get the impression sheā€™s a bit of a one off in a very good way. She has loads of experience of children with stuck poošŸ˜

The continence nurse I spoke to today was talking about a stoma so I think thatā€™s where we are headed if the chiropractor canā€™t fix things long term....but Iā€™m super hopeful

Another update...following vomiting yesterday afternoon, came to hospital today on the advice of the continence nurse and heā€™s now waiting for an enema. Oh the joys of intractable constipation....fingers crossed the chiropractor can help with medium to long term picture
