My 3 year old has been constipated for some time and the constant overflow has left his bottom red raw and almost bleeding. Today we started deimpaction and he is screaming with the pain of being cleaned. We are using cotton wool and water and he's been in the shower 4 times today, and we are using Sudacrem and Calpol to help. He's incredibly upset and woke up last night screaming and crying. Does anyone have any words of advice or support on how I can help him. It's a struggle to get him to let me clean him up and hard to balance all this with a newborn baby.
Thanks

Our continence nurse told us there is something else you can get on prescription for sore bottom (not bepanthen). I would take them straight to the GP and explain the problem. They probably need to take a look to see what’s going on down there. I don’t know if I would continue with disimpaction until the soreness has healed. That sounds like it could get pretty traumatic. My sone uses sudocrem twice daily every day for prevention of soreness but I know there is another product, just can’t remember the name, the nurse said sudocrem doesn’t work for everyone, maybe someone else on here will know what it’s called
Hi, we saw the GP on Friday and mentioned his bottom and they advised just using Sudacrem as it has an antiseptic in it. I dithered over continuing the process and decided to go ahead he pretty much has continuous poo already with constant soiling so stopping wouldn't prevent the problem. I'm just hoping the process is swift and he gets some respite soon. Poor thing was OK last night but his bottom is bleeding now and he doesn't even want to sit and us trying to withhold the inevitable. It's traumatic for all of us.
Have you tried metanium? It is really thick, yellow in colour and does discolour underwear BUT it is really good as totally protects the skin whilst giving the skin chance to heal. Good luck.
Thanks. We had been using the yellow metanium before Friday as I've found it a miracle cream in the past. I think I will try again today to see if it's better.
