Hiya

We are under the hospital for my LG bowel movements. They have put us on movicol and dulcolax.

I have sent for a private intolerance screening as we don’t go bk to the hospital till September.

Anyway it’s come bk that she has a milk and wheat intolerance!

What’s the best buys for a 3 year old with these intolerances pls?

Hi there. I'm afraid I can't suggest anything as we're not dealing with a known intolerance but I've always wondered if there's something which effects my son and causes loose poos (different from the overflow ones which he has also had) and I'd be interested in knowing how you went about doing these intolerance screenings? Thanks and good luck with finding the best buys!x

Hello - really interesting to hear you’ve found this too. There’s a thread on here from about a month ago called ‘could it really be that easy?’ Where a lady called ‘knittingmama’ posted about going dairy free and the difference it made to her child’s constipation. If you can find that, there’s some tips in there. My only thought is to watch out for wheat hidden in stuff, e.g not all porridge oats are wheat free. One of my daughter’s BF’s is celiac and we tend to have jacket potatoes when he comes round for tea but you might find some other forums with more imaginative ideas!!

We are now dairy and wheat free with my son aged 4. This has made a big difference to his symptoms. A specialist that we saw said many children with constipation have a milk protein intolerance. What amazes me is that there is very little discussion on the cause of constipation - just the treatment. Good luck!

Dear Sarah,

If, and this can be a big 'IF', you can get your GP to accept the findings, of your independent assessment, then Gluten, and Lactose free food is available, on Prescription. Alternatively ask if these Tests can be repeated, on the NHS (a word of 'warning' here, a Gluten Intolerance test, will NOT show a problem if your child has not been eating it. Catch 22? Yes it is.) However if your daughter, feels better, on gluten/lactose free food then maybe the extra cost, it can be bought, is worth it? Either way, I'm sure, that we all wish her well Sarah.

Best wishes

Hiya, I too my son off dairy and gluten due to gastritis and bowel problems. I’m now reintroducing gluten gradually in small amounts (no bread). He’s 9. He’s super fussy because lots of things make him feel sick or he gets bored of them but things he has eaten which are gluten dairy free since the change are: alpro soya dessert pots, alpro soya ice cream, sorbet, sesame snaps (Sainsbury’s), warbutons multi seed gluten free sandwich pockets (Lidl), gluten free wraps, spelt pasta (low gluten, Holland and Barrett but you can get good range of gluten free ones at Waitrose), Sainsbury’s gluten/dairy free biscuits, grilled meat (I cook it on skewers like kebabs), rice, any fruit and veg, ice lollies, homemade pancakes made with buckwheat flour and eggs and almond milk, hot cocoa made with almond milk, sugar and mini marshmallows, sweets, gluten free pretzels, breadsticks and crackers (Sainsbury’s) , bacon, I bake with gluten free flour, gluten free Yorkshire’s, fish fingers, chicken nuggets (Sainsbury’s) , gluten free individual apple pies (I serve it warm with alpro soya custard) and chicken goujons (Tesco). I sometimes take him shopping, just him and me specifically to buy his food and we go to 2/3 shops. My fave is Sainsbury’s they have the best selection.
