Memory loss from Carbamazepine

I wanted to share a recent change in my medication for Trigeminal Neuralgia caused by Acoustic Neuroma. This is treated with Carbamazepine also being used in epilepsy.

I was on Carbamazepine for around 9 months or more but developed more a more problems with memory. The most obvious was being in a conversation and unable to recall names, as a specific example. Mental exhaustion was also evident meaning having to stop work around 2:30pm.

After a consultation in Nov 2024 with follow up in Jan 2025 I was switched to Oxcarbazepine. Within 5 days, my memory returned. Hopefully this might provide hope to others who may not have confronted memory problems with Carbamazepine.
