hi

Just looking to see if anyone has some experience

Epilepsy since 3 been seizure free for 3 and a half years. Had a seizure today.

Icsi cycle May 2021- freeze all

FET July 2021- unsuccessful thaw

ICSI jan 2022- resulted in baby girl

FET- July 2023 resulted in MC

so I had my review after the miscarriage at fertility clinic and dr went through everything for moving forward for next cycle. then at the end of the appointment just said and your epilepsy is controlled and you’re seizure free so I had to tell them. She then informed me I had to to be seizure free for a year which I never heard before. I’m 41 next week so I really don’t want to wait the year. Has anyone experienced similar or any advice.

TIA

Hi

It must have been difficult to have a seizure again after being seizure free for so long.

We haven’t come across anyone being told they can’t have fertility treatments until they are seizure free before.

We have also had a look at The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines for the assessment and treatment of fertility problems and can’t find any mention of this here: nice.org.uk/guidance/cg156/...

I hope you hear from others on this platform, as sharing information and experiences can be a good idea.

Can I just check you also know about our other services?

We have our Talk and Support groups (epilepsy.org.uk/support-for-you/talk-and-support-virtual-groups) and befriending service (epilepsy.org.uk/support-for-you/epilepsy-befriending).

We also have a membership offer which is designed to help people stay up to date with all the latest epilepsy news, views and research: epilepsy.org.uk/involved/join

Finally, if you think it may be helpful to speak to one of our advisers in more detail you can contact us by live chat or the Epilepsy Action Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050. Our helpline is open Monday to Friday 8.30am until 5.00pm and Saturday 10.00am until 4.00pm: epilepsy.org.uk/support-for-you/the-epilepsy-action-helpline

Thank you so much for your reply. Hearing from other people’s experience and knowledge is putting my mind at ease. Letter has been sent to neurologist to see and I’ve spoken to epilepsy nurses regarding the matter.
