Night terrors anyone?

Do any of you suffer from night-time “terror” episodes? I get up in the night very fearful and panicky, asking questions and pleading to go outside. They last about 10 minutes, are virtually identical each time, and I have absolutely no memory of them the next day.

It was first thought they were parasomnias( a form of sleep-walking basically) but it’s now suspected they are epileptic.

Do any of you have these or similar? And if so have you found a way of stopping them?

sounds like seizures. Did you have a video EEG that captured an episode?

No but have been asking for one and will again ask the neurologist.

Dear Michael-M

These night-time terrors sound like a scary experience. You mention you are under a neurologist so hopefully they will find out what this is.

It is possible to have epileptic seizures in your sleep epilepsy.org.uk/living/heal...

Any type of seizure can happen during your sleep including focal seizures. In focal seizures, epileptic activity starts in just one part of your brain. You may remain alert during this type of seizure, or you may not be aware of what is happening around you. You may have movements that you can’t control, or unusual sensations or feelings.

Here is a link to our information on how epilepsy is diagnosed. If possible could you arrange to video them to show the neurologist, as this can be very helpful for the neurologist.

Could be a reaction to medication, I have epilepsy, Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy, I would get "night terrors" when solely on Lamotrigine/Lamictal, with other epilepsy medication no problem!
