weird feeling InshaAllah throat

When I get absence seizures which I do every month a few days before My menstruation, I have an awful weird feeling InshaAllah my throat that last ages with auras. The auras go but this feeling lasts hours. I can’t describe it to anybody properly.. I’m really hoping someone here understands??

In my thought I meant sorry

The strange taste you get, sometimes people describe as metallic, is quite normal. You may gag at the same time too. If it persists, call a doctor to give you a benzodiazepine jab. Harmless. Takes away that horrible taste. Been used for years now.

Hi vibrant, it’s not a taste it’s a feeling In the throat

If you feel your throat is constricting (getting narrow) so that you're choking, get yourself examined asap. Stronger throat muscles help your food & drink go down.

when i had fits i didnt seem to get any auras i just felt stiff after waking up from them & dizzy spells & sometimes crying . At times ive bit my tonge

I get simple partial seizures like crazy before my period. I get VERY anxious and have the auras. When I get the auras my anxiety is sky high and my heart races, throat closes up,I get really hot and dizzy.

For me the dizziness bothers me the most as I’m convinced I’ll have a Grand Mal.. even though I haven’t in 8+ years but it’s always my biggest fear.

Hi SID123

What you are experiencing sounds unpleasant and understandably distressing.

When someone has an aura, it is in fact a focal aware seizure. It can sometimes be difficult to explain symptoms of a focal aware seizure. This is because what happens during a focal aware seizure depends on which area (lobe) of the brain is affected, and whether the seizure spreads to affect other areas. Some people just experience one symptom during a focal aware seizure, while others experience several. We explain some of the symptoms on our websiteepilepsy.org.uk/info/seizur...

It would be advisable to keep a diary of your seizures and the best description you can give. This will help your epilepsy nurse or consultant understand what is happening and the best way to treat it.

epilepsy.org.uk/info/diagno...

Some women with epilepsy find their menstrual cycle has an effect on their seizures. This is known as catamenial epilepsy. If you think you may have catamenial epilepsy, your epilepsy specialist can look at possible treatments with you, such as a prescription for the drug clobazam (Frisium). Clobazam is taken as well as your usual epilepsy medicine, but just on the days when you are at risk of having seizures.

If you are unable to contact your epilepsy nurse or specialist, if you become concerned talk to your GP.

I hope you find this information helpful. If we can be of any more help, please feel free to contact our helpline team directly.
