I have severe focal onset seizures and sometimes status, is it normal if you can't remember what happened as it feels as if I've lost hours or days at a time?

I started with Epilepsy about 3 years ago. At first there were partial seizures then I went on to the full blown grand mal seizures but with a strange pattern of occuring about every three weeks. I suffer with complete memory loss from a couple of days before a seizure to two or three days after when I have had a particularly bad patch. Where I have had seizures within a week I tend to loose the whole week of memory. Fortunately I now have medication which stops the seizures (Levetiracetam) and I haven't had one for over 18 months.

The Neuros think that my Epilepsy is caused by a head injury some 25 years ago. Its also damaged my pituitary which controls most of the Endocrine system so I am having real problems getting that sorted.

Good luck,

Heather

Hello Linmajt6

Seizures can disrupt the way the brain normally works, so some people do tell us that they can’t remember the time around their seizures. For some people this can be before, during and after the seizure: epilepsy.org.uk/info/about

Depending on which part of the brain the burst of electrical activity happens in, it can also lead to problems with memory. If you have noticed this you could ask your GP to refer you for a memory assessment: epilepsy.org.uk/info/memory

If you are still having regular seizures, it may be a worth you talking to your epilepsy doctor/nurse about this. This will give you chance to check that any treatment you are getting is still the best for you: epilepsy.org.uk/info/treatment

Thanks, and I have been assessed for memory loss in quarriers epilepsy centre after been in for six weeks last year, but I was surprised that the neurologist doctor didn't realise until I said I couldn't remember anything that happens.

I have temporal epilepsy, I know when I have a seizure (or faze out as I call it) I can’t remember what happened for the time it occurs. I’m not sure about full hours though honestly.
