I have Complex Partial Seizures and Tonic Clonic Seizures, which come from Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

I have Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy. This typically arises during puberty (mine started within a couple of weeks of getting my first period, which I believe is more than coincidence). It is probably triggered by hormonal changes, although along with most other kinds of epilepsy is very poorly understood. I had seizures from the age of 14-21, including tonic-clonic seizures (full unconscious fits); these would only occur once every few months to begin with, but towards the end I was having 2-3 a month. I also had absence seizures and myoclonic jerks on a more regular basis (almost daily). As a teenager this was also horrendous as they would sometimes cause me to do things like wet myself because I lost control of my bladder.

I was told that some people grow out of JME, but once I hit about 19, there wasn't really any hope of this. Luckily, after trying a couple of meds that didn't help, I'm now on Epilim Chrono (one of the best meds for this kind of epilepsy, but not initially tried on me because of being a young female and the fact that it can cause pregnancy complications). It has completely controlled my epilepsy now for about 6 years! Hooray!

I've had Tonic Clonic seizures for the last 40 years. Slowly, now they seem to be settling down. 13 weeks seizures free. Congrats to Amy - good news. Keep well, everyone!
