I've had 2 laps in the space of 4 months... And I'm finally feeling a whole load better. You have to think positively and take it really easy for a few weeks afterwards. Remember although you only have 3 little holes on the outside, you will have had a heap of work done on the inside.
As for things to help. Get some arnica tablets from Boots and start taking them the day before the op, then 4 x a day after it. This will help the healing and bruising from the op. I also rubbed arnica gel onto my tummy and it helped with the pain and bruising there too. On my second lap, I got given buscopan to help with the gas induced muscle spasms. I wasn't given that for some reason for my first lap, and was in agony. Peppermint tea also helps a bit. My third wapon was my wheatie hot bean bag which I heated up and put over my tummy.
Make sure you have someone to look after you for a few days when you come out of hospital and don't try to lift anything. You'll only do your back in otherwise as your ab muscles will be weak. I found this out the hard way - lifted up my friend's baby 4 weeks after the op and was in agony for 5 days with a strained back!
