i'm really worried about it, it's due next week.
sorry it's called decapeptyl injection p... - Endometriosis UK
sorry it's called decapeptyl injection plus tibolone tablets. i love to hear of those people who have had any of these,
That's great advice, Impatient.
I have had 4 decapeptyl injections so far. The injection itself hurts, they suggest taking 2 ibuprofen plus 2 paracetamol before. The injection is in your buttock, not stomach. I find my leg aches for a few days after.
The side effects aren't fun, I'm afraid to say. It will put you into chemical menopause.
Hot flashes, night sweats, aches and pains, memory problems and nausea are my main side effects. I am on livial add back therapy now to counter some of these, and it seems to be working. I think it is similar to tibolone.
I basically just feel awful for about a week after each injection. Kind of like bad flu symptoms but without the sneezes. Every person reacts differently though.
It does stop periods, so if your pain is mostly from this, then it should help you a lot.
Keep us posted..

Hi
I have had 2 decapeptyl injections over 2 months. Apart from the night sweats and being moody, it gave me high blood pressure which in turn gave me bad headaches. It didn't stop my period until I had the second injection. The second one seemed worse than the first. I had to have them as I was having surgery.
Good luck x
The side effects are basically menopausal side effects - headaches, mood swings, hot sweats, aches etc etc. It can be pretty nasty BUT the Tibolone helps a lot with that and its not so bad.
The injection itself does hurt but honestly it is NOTHING compared to endo pain. You can get up and walk normally etc and for me it is just the initial injection and maybe a minute afterwards. I would say I feel uncomfortable for say 10 minutes and thats it. You do tend to get a big bruise a day or two later but its nothing compared to endo. I'd have one of them every 10 minutes if it got rid of my endo pain.
They dont work for everyone especially if your periods continue but its worth trying. xx
I'm on decacpeptyl at the moment,i have an injection every 3 months and im due my 4th one in a few weeks time. I have also had 2 rounds of zoladex (6 months each round) so can compare the 2. The zoladex injection is alot worse than the decapeptyl in my experience, the needle is so much longer and fatter,i find that if a wiggle my toes when they're doing the injection in my buttock it lessens the pain. It does do pretty much the same as the zoladex, though i am still in alot of pain and live off painkillers,i haven't had a period for a year so thats a bonus. I get hot flushes, night sweats, headaches, weight gain,i do take HRT (eleste duet conti) which helps though. Im awaiting an appointment for surgery so hopefully won't need to pump these chemicals into my body for very much longer x
Hi Sam
I have just had my 2nd 3 monthly Decapeptyl jab. The jab was fine but I had night sweats and hot flushes so my GP put me on Tibolone to counter balance them. I have my jab as I wanted to be pain free from my endo for a while so I could lose weight to get onto IVF. I have been going slimming world but am losing the will to diet as I am constantly hungry and am gaining weight even though I am following their extra easy plan. After reading your comment above it made me think that maybe its from my injection. Is weight gain a common side effect with this drug?
Hi,
Ive recently had my 3rd decapeptyl injection and so far so good!! I read a lot of negative information about it before hand but I have no complaints! I do get hot flushes quite regularly and sleep disturbance which is annoying but I have not had a period at all while having these injections and I can only hope they are doing my endo some good! I dont take Tibolone though so have no idea about the effect of that x
hi is it really like chemo as i'm having injection and tabs for endomit. pls advice
Hi, I had decapeptyl as monthly injections for 3 mths then had a 3 mth injection of it. I'm hoping to have a hysterectomy next year. I've had hot flushes but they're bearable. I've had quite a lot of headaches. I'm not taking HRT. This is the first thing in 10 years that has stopped me from having periods and has stopped all of my endo pains!
I'd just like to say saying these injections are chemotherapy treatment is making a massive overstatement - they are a hormone treatment. They may be used as part of chemo treatment but that's all! Frankly I think telling people you are having chemo treatment is awful and a real insult to cancer patients. Endo is horrible but it isn't life threatening, unless you have some bad complication.
I had 3 months of prostap injections as well as add-back tibolone, sorry to say they did absolutely nothing... no side effects either. Only good thing was that my periods did stop. I had a laparoscopy last week and they removed several adhesions.
hi im currently having decacpeptyl injections. ive had 2 just now and getting my 3rd on friday as i have stage 4 endemetriosis and my bowels stuck to my ovary so my gynae put me on these to calm everything down before they can operate. with regards to injection!! ive been having the nite sweats which is fine i can deal with but also severe headaches and started taking really bad panic attacks when im sleeping but not sure if this is a side effect from injection. My moods is terrible!!! if i dont want to burst out crying for no reason i want to just shout or be cheeky! hate feeling like this as it makes you feel like such a horrible person and thats not me. x.
I have just had my 2nd 3 monthly Decapeptyl jab. The jab was fine but I had night sweats and hot flushes and joint pains so my GP put me on Tibolone to counter balance them. I have my jab as I wanted to be pain free from my endo for a while so I could lose weight to get onto IVF. I have been going slimming world but am losing the will to diet as I am constantly hungry and am gaining weight even though I am following their extra easy plan. Do not know if this is due to either of their drugs. I can say however that I have been 95% pain free from Endo for 3 months which is fantastic. After years of pain and painkillers it has been a godsend for me. Despite the site effects. Hope this helps
Hi girls, on the weight gain issue, yes it does mess things up. I did not change my routine or eating habits one bit the 6 months I was on decapeptyl but still managed to put on 8lbs (this included walking a husky 5 miles a day) but go easy on yourselves! Those women in magazines do not have endo, their world doesn't end every 4 weeks, they are not on hormone treatment! Just get through it and hopefully a day will come soon that your metabolism will settle. Today you are fighting a god awful disease not hitting the catwalk!
