Hi
It seems to me that most people with endo have issues with depression. I think there must be a link in the chemistry of it all, but even if there's not, being in that much pain all of the time is bound to drag you down. As are worries about the future.
I went through a few anti-depressants before we found one that worked for me. I have no hesitation in taking them; they're there to do a job and they do it. The way I see it, I wouldn't refuse painkillers so I'm not going to refuse something that lifts my mood.
I don't think there is the stigma surrounding anti-depressants as there used to be. If you feel you need some help, go and investigate it. You may just need some short term support, or it might be a long term thing. As Tinker said, at the end of the day, only you can decide
Good luck!

Hi tinker,
Sorry to hear you are down, but you are not alone. I gave in a 6 weeks back and put my name down for counselling, but I received a letter friday saying there is a 14 week waiting list. So, after a near on breakdown just over a week ago I am now on Diazapam (at night to ehlp me sleep), and Citalopram (anti-depressant). I can't say the Citalopram has kicked in fully yet, but at least I have stopped crying and worrying about everything.
It maybe worth seeing how long the waiting list for counselling is, and then decide if you think you will need any medication? Its just that the one I am on you are on for a long time, (you ween on and ween off). OR, I sometimes use Kalms, theya re really great and take the edge off things, but it could be you may need something a little stronger.
I hope you find a treatment that suits and helps you.

Im sorry your struggling. I found the depression crept up on me id spent 4months having investigations and awaiting surgery and hoped op would help unfortunatly it didnt and i got a second opinion and have just had a second op. The fact i was holding it all together for 4months pinning all hopes on first op when it didnt help i was very low. I went down route of antidepressants as a short term help as i was really struggling but also saw a councillor which i think helped more I had to pay to see her since there was a 3month waiting list on nhs.but i think it was well worth it.It was the lack of control over my own body that i found difficult to deal with and the constant pain as you no is so draining and i expect anyone with chronic pain feels low from time to time.
hope you get the right help for you x
Sorry to hear you are suffering. I have suffered from depression twice and both times have taken anti-depressants. I took the stance that if I had a headache I would take a pill, but I know and respect that some people don't want to take that route. There is quite abit on the internet about serotonin, and foods that help increase your natural levels, so thats worth investigating. I also did some courses held by our local health service - they really help you to understand what depression is and that you are not going mad! I was abit nervous about doing group therapy, but found it much better than 1-2-1 counselling. I hope you find whats right for you x
I have some kind of depression I think most people with endo do, my GP said she expects me to be depressed considering whatim living with, and did suggest counselling there is always a loooong queue for counselling via NHS, I took a few sessions private but I am told it needs to be long term with me.
I did not want the anti depressants although have been offered them for years even before diagnosed with endo, was told they help with pain.
Pain gets worse when we are stressed and feeling down, angry tense, so it does make sense.
Recently got into a pain clinic, they have given me a cocktail of drugs to beat the pain, opiate bupernorphine, benzos (diazepam), anti depressant ( dulexitine) and paracetamol. But along side- tens machine they have a tens clinic ( tens machines can be great if you know how to use them), also will be having pychology pain related, and some kind of exercise programme ( releases endorphins the bodies natural pain killer) told me start with brisk walking, I'm scared but will give it a go I need to get more mobile and feel happy again.
Im starting to feel better now and relieved,I'm with the pain team again, this one is good thanks to God. I took me a while to get back here, and best to have an expert dealing with real pain, which always has an emotional and psychological effect on us, rather than the general GP doctor, who does not r rally know about what kind of pain we are having and is just trailing and erroring us with random medicines which may not help.
Check label of any medicines for ingredients may be intolerant to because will give another problem if they do!
Perhaps ask for r eternal to pain clinic, pain management they really should send us, and the pain doc said it was a mistake of first GP to not send me, I had to change GP to get the referral, but thanks to the Lord I got it.
Sorry I always type too much, I'm lonely and no one understands but you guys!
Hope this helps and you start to feel better soon.
sorry to hear your feeling this way but yes i have been very badly depressed since my op last sept as it did not work as good as i hoped
