I was wondering if there is anyone out there suffering like me?I was diagnosed with Stage 4 endometriosis in 2022. I had nodules found on the right side of my diaphragm too. I have been suffering with excessive hiccups. I have these every single day and they last for ages! It exhausts me! I also suffer with belching. It's like air get trapped in my throat and I have to burp it out? It drives me mad, I'm constantly exhausted. It makes me feel nauseous so I have no appetite. I am losing weight also. These symptoms get worse when I'm due on and on my period.

My GP has referred me to gastroenterology. But I don't know if they will be able to help me?

Any advice would be much appreciated xx

hi

For me these symptoms were caused by lactose in the Eleste HRT I was taking for 3 years. I had no idea. My stools turned light coloured. I was constantly bilious and burping. Doing 10+ movements a day and blaming all sorts of other conditions, peri, IBS, stress.

Not saying you’re the same but it’s easy to rule it out.

It’s easy to test, try 24 hours with no milk cheese yoghurt not even ‘May contain’ no milk chocolate, no butter, no spread with buttermilk, no pastry with butter and no ‘lactose free’ as those are actually just low lactose. Check every packet and ingredient for milk and milk powder or lactose in bold.

If this works for you and the burping stops you can ask for alternatives to all lactose containing meds it’s used as a coating for many many tablets but there are lots of alternatives available you just have to ask.

Other ideas - low stomach acid causing reflux, I’ve had this too, avoid fizzy drinks after meals. In fact avoid fizzy drinks full stop especially Prosecco. Consider sugar in the diet as this ferments. I found betaine HCL with pepsin tablets at meal times helped things go down easier. (Could you be hypothyroid? Low stomach acid is common in hypothyroidism) ENT specialist I saw said reflux is at epidemic proportions worldwide and prescribed antacids are making it worse.

Thanks for your reply 👍🏼 More on my background. I was diagnosed with coeliac disease 10yrs ago. Before my endo diagnosis. I had lactose test where you drink the drink, Pill cam, I've had a number of endscopys. Years ago I thought it was acid reflux and got that check and said it wasn't Gerd. I'm in no pain at all, it's just the excessive hiccups and burping (food doesn't aggrivate it) i can go hours without food, then just have a sip of water and it triggers it.

I'm gluten free, caffeine and only drink water. No alcohol either.

I wondered if it was SIBO or the condition where you swallow too much air when eating?

Ah so you have been round this block yourself before already 🤗. Could be SIBO then , or SIFO, do you know anyone with the breath monitors to test you? I followed an autoimmune protocol by Izabella Wentz with probiotics like s. Boulardii and black seed oil which helped me . Could still be low stomach acid from low FT3 impacting the stomach valves, coeliac and hypothyroidism are common together.

Hopefully gastro have the answers for you. Well done getting a referral.
