Solo travel

Hey! I’ve just been informed by my GP that I probably shouldn’t be going backpacking solo as my flare ups are so bad I’m unable to move at all when they occur.

They have also said I should take prostap every month for a year.

Has anyone been told to not travel alone before or had these injections?

I’ve literally quit my job to go travelling so I’m freaking out now

Sounds like you are in a unique position, has GP referred you to Gynae?

You must have a good GP for them to say that out of concern and understanding. You know how you feel and cope each time.

I did Zoladex for six months didn’t do anything for me. I tried it, we don’t know if something works or not.

Sorry I’m not much help

Yes the gynae is the one that made asked my GP to put me on the Zoladex.

I take it they want you try it before possibly operating, or have they made other suggestions?

Where were you going travelling? You need to be careful with medication and different countries, if you do go contact the different embassies about taking medication in.

I’ve already had one laparoscopy but they’ve decided to go for medical menopause instead.

Sorry you are going through it, it can make you feel very down at times.

I hope whatever you decide helps 🙂

I went travelling - I got a letter to cover the medication and took what I needed with me. I think I was on either zoladex or decapeptyl, the 3 monthly version (so I didn’t have to take as much with me). Best thing I ever did and my consultant encouraged it. My pain is mainly when having periods and when emptying my bowel so it was more managed on the medication. Taking probiotics helps me and avoiding eating particular foods. I took out good medical insurance. I would say it depends how your flare ups affect you and whether you would feel able to manage it while away in the same way you do at home? I found there were less demands and pressures on me, so if I needed a rest day or days/ that’s what I’d do! I was anxious about it but it was such a great time and I’m so pleased I did it!
