My surgeon has referred me to the endometriosis centre in Manchester. Has anyone else ever had to wait upto a year to see them? My surgeon isn’t in my area I have moved to so I’m struggling with what to do now as my treatment has finished this month after being on prostap for stage 4 endo.

Hi I’m in Derby , 9 months wait to see endometriosis specialist team and then an 18month wait for a hysterectomy 😡😩. X
It’s ridiculous isn’t it, just expect us to wait and suffer even more when the GP doesn’t want to offer any treatment due to not being the surgeon x
Yes it is absolutely ridiculous, I’ve emailed my consultants secretary to tell her my symptoms are getting worse and im having to have time off work for a few days every month because I feel so ill .
She’s said she going to ask if my appointment can be expedited , so I guess I will have to wait and see what he says.
If the answer is no that Im going to pay private for intial appointment which I shouldn’t have to I know , but feel I can’t wait all that time
X
I’ve recently been seen by Royal Oldham which I chose over Manchester Royal Infirmary as I was familiar with the consultant/surgeon. Their MDT review was 3 months compared to 1 year at MRI. Their surgery wait list is 62 weeks, but they are prioritising cases based on severity of disease/symptoms and impact to standard of living.
Would you say Oldham is good? I’ve been asked to pick between there and mri for colorectal
I’ve had no issues with the Gyne/Endometriosis team, I can’t fault them.. since the day I was referred, I’ve been in constant contact with the consultants secretary who has been hugely supportive. My inital consult was then via telephone which surprised me but I’d already had all scans at my local hospital so all there was to say was surgery is needed and a discussion re remaining on hormones. Pre op was extremely thorough, bloods/ECG (which hadn’t happened elsewhere previously) They did their best to make me feel as comfortable as possible pre surgery, as I was extremely anxious on the day. So much so that they changed the schedule so that I could go first as they could see I was quite stressed.
My only criticism would be that you can see the hospital are struggling with staffing/organisation, post wake up I was stuck in recovery for hours due to a lack of beds/porters. The discharge ward also gave me no information re wound care and stitch removal. I did forget to ask, as it’s hard to remember everything so soon after anaesthetic but I soon realised they have a 24 hour gyne clinic who helped me with all of that over the phone. Overall it was much better than my local hospital.
That’s great thank you, I will definitely pick there then for the time being. My concerns were because of the state of their a&e and how long you end up waiting to be seen there but thank you so much.
Hey Red476,
Yes that seems to be fairly normal, I hate to say it. It shouldn't be especially for a condition that effects all aspects of your life.
The gynaecology dept I've been referred to says on average I will be waiting 1 year for my 1st app. I have a friend who waiting 3 years for her lap surgery.
Unfortunately, the waiting times are dreadful..I really sympathise with you. I have personally been told to wait 80 weeks (6 months to go!)..That's Edinburgh
Yes appointment was 10 months (this is after an abandoned hysterectomy!). I went private which was good. When I eventually went to the endo centre (expecting to see him again) he'd retired! 🤣. The state of women's health is not good x if you have £200 it might be good to go private.
