First Gynaecology appointment

Hi there, I am new here. A few months ago I went into hospital with debilitating pains to my abdomen. Finally was referred by gynarcology for a MRI. Results came back showing I had two small Endometriomas and Adneomyosis. They said I would have a follow up appointment in June/July. I have been called up today as they have an appointment tomorrow which obviously I took since waiting since September last year.

Can anyone who had their first initial gynaecology outpatient appointment please explain what to expect? I am so scared they are going to dismiss me. I have waited 8 years to be diagnosed after being fobbed off so many times by doctors saying it was ‘IBS’ which I knew it was not.

I have already a marina coil fitted last year as I read that it could help which it did initially but not so much now with my symptoms. I am constantly in severe pain almost every single day along with other symptoms. I am worried that they will dismiss me as I have the marina coil in and that they will not refer me for a Laprosocopy and give me better pain relief.

Sorry for rambling on, I am just so nervous as I want to be taken seriously and be heard like all of us do. I have heard so many horror stories.

Some advise would be amazing if possible. Thank you xx

Sorry to hear of your pains and the length of time you have been waiting for an appointment!

I was the same as you many years ago and am now awaiting my 5th operation. You are in a better situation that I was at my first gynaecologist appointment as you have MRI proof and I found the hardest thing was getting them to believe you!

They will more than likely talk to you about your symptoms, maybe do an internal check (lovely I know!) and then they should refer you for surgery if you are happy to go ahead.

I hated the coil and had it removed and will never have it again it made me so much worse ! So tell them that you want to explore other options if you are not happy. I tricycle the pill and found this to be much better.

My advice is to stand your ground and say what you want.
