symptoms persisting after laparoscopy.

Hello!

I had a laparoscopy in November 2023, some endometriosis was burned away. Following recovery from the post-op pain etc, I felt that my symptoms had mainly resolved and was so glad. Now just over 3 months post-laparoscopy, I am having bouts of terrible abdominal pain, constant bleeding (for over 9 weeks) and just feel so exhausted most of the time. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m wondering if it would be worth going back to the gynaecologist and requesting a referral for an MRI to check if there is more endometriosis present. Thanks.

Hi NC,

Sorry to hear you’ve been suffering. I just wanted to reply because I had surgery on 3rd December last year and although I was worried about pain at first during ovulation and periods, this is definitely improving to the point that the pain is minimal. I think it’s definitely a good idea to go back to your gynaecologist about the bleeding and pain so they can check what’s going on and help to resolve whatever is it.

Hope you get it resolved quickly.

Hello, thank you for your reply. I’m glad the surgery has been of benefit to you and hope your pain stays away. Here’s hoping they will find a cause.

Did you have a scan prior to the lap and did you already have a diagnosis or was this diagnostic?

Hi, I had an ultrasound scan but no diagnosis. The laparoscopy was diagnostic.

Hey hello. I also had a laparoscopy in November 2023.The procedure, including removal of a ovary and tube, has made no difference in the pain/ bleeding I experience, which sounds just like you.

I am being referred to an endometriosis team but in the meantime my GP said the only way to resolve the pain/ bleeding is to have a mirena coil. I will be having one soon much to my reluctance but need to try it, just to rule it out. I have read so much about the mirena that it actually makes symptoms worst so I have all fingers crossed.

I hope you find something to improve your symptoms.

Hello!

Sorry to hear that you are still suffering from pain too. It’s really disappointing to feel like the surgery wasn’t a success. I’m glad you’re being referred to specialists and hope that they will provide you with some guidance/answers. I was offered a mirena whilst they were doing the laparoscopy and I had initially agreed but changed my mind immediately prior to the surgery as I wanted to know if there was endometriosis there before having it put in. I hope if you go ahead with the mirena that it does give you some relief until you get more answers. Thank you.
