Hi
My gynae consultant is querying whether I have endometriosis she said she was sending me for an MRI with contrast and sent me for a blood test, but my MRI appointment has come through and it’s one without contrast does this matter?
Thanks

Hi. I arranged a private MRI myself and requested contrast too and they explained on the phone that it may not be needed depending on the type of images they got, when it came to the day they didn’t actually use contrast and hence didn’t charge me for that element. So that may be the case with you that they see what the images are like coming through first, then make the decision re contrast and whether necessary? Just a guess as I’m not sure if protocol, but I was told if I’d needed it I would get it. That was an MRI after 3 months Prostap use, my MRI previous to that was when I had significant pain with endo and adenomyosis and ureter involvement they used contrast straight away and it was a much longer MRI as a lot more pictures were needed. Lastly, not sure if worth noting, but when I lived in Australia, the consultant did a ‘Ca125’ blood test which came back elevated - often a sign of endometriosis. (It apparently can come back with much higher results for ovarian cancer) After GPs in the UK dismissed my symptoms for over 10yrs the doctors in Oz finally worked out what was wrong - unlike here, chronic fatigue wasn’t dismissed as a stand alone illness and was seen as a symptom of something else going on and my body fighting disease. Their forethought & determination to work out what was wrong finally got me a diagnosis sadly after a great deal of damage had already been caused by untreated endo.
Good luck with it all. I hope your scan results give a much clearer picture to help you move forward with x
