NHS BSGE & PRIVATE. Absolutely baffled.

Hi, hope you're all well/looking after yourselves.

I'm looking for some serious advice because I am really baffled at this point. I want to go private because I am sooo fed up of the NHS. I have Stage 4 endometriosis, I'm looking at a Excision of endometriosis, adhesiolysis, rectal shaving, damaged tube removal and ovarian cystectomy. I was booked in to St Mary's in May but unfortunately the consultant passed away.

So I decided to look closer to home (Liverpool) because the consultant I had booked in with was really the only one at St Mary's worth the money for travel and consultation (I was also recommended to said consultant by a fellow sufferer). I found that my consultant is the only consultant in Liverpool (NHS SPIRE AND BUPA).

Then reading through I'm finding that I should've been referred to a BSGE? Which I hadn't been. I have contacted my nearest BSGE (Wirral lol, I Can't believe it). My question is this, do I have any options when it comes to funding the surgery? Can this be done on the NHS? Just "endometriosis" is on my health summary, have I been diagnosed? Could I still get private healthcare if I need to?

Also, side note. I have just moved house and cannot bring myself to register with an NHS GP not sure whether to just go private for now? Is it gonna be crazy expensive?

Thanks in advance.

hi, if you have private health insurance that will cover the cost or even contribute towards the full cost then it is feasible. If you pay as you go it can run well into the thousands . Personally through my experience I started with Bupa and was told for MTD operation I would have to be transferred onto the NHS as private care at the moment has longer waiting lists , it maybe different in your area but I would look into it before committing . BSGE centres are under specific requirements and to be honest I was just seen in normal practices I had deep infiltrating endometriosis around kidneys , bladder and bowels had to have radical hysterectomy and I’m yet to to be seen in BSGE centre or have a endometriosis nurse to contact I think that’s something that depends again on your area . I would just make sure your consultant is accredited for complicated endo and is experienced with it . Hope this helps a little
