Prostap and Tibolone HRT. Any advice please?

I have recently started the Prostap injection whilst I am waiting for my second endo surgery.

I have have two injections and I am on tibolone to help with symptoms. I am having hot sweats, headaches, severe fatigue and feeling achy. I also feel hungry but then when I go to eat something it makes me feel sick.

My specialist has said to try and wait until I have had my third injection before changing HRT but I’m just not sure it’s worth feeling this bad until I have my surgery next year. I just feel so spaced out and not myself

Any advice on this would be amazing!

Thank you!

hi Em .. I had prostap for 6 months , only tried the Tibolone for one month in the second injection.. came off it after 4 weeks due to side effects I was worried about and have now decided not to have any more prostap because I’m scared for my bones . I have decided I feel happier because I’m less anxious if I’m not on it . So that’s my decision but I will have to deal with my previous symptoms coming back at some point . But my worries about the treatment was just too great . This is not everyone’s experience if it but do what you feel is right for you . I feel like they gave me false expectation about how long I’d be expected to stay on it . I was assured I’d probably need a 3-6 month course max but no word of a surgery date and just more appointments for prosaic and more anxiety . Good luck with what you decide to do and I hope you get sorted soon xx

Hiya, thank you for sharing your story with me! I am worried about how it will affect me in the long run given my surgery isn’t likely to be until May 2024 at the earliest.I just don’t know if I can carry on with tinolone given the side effects I’m having. Did you change onto a different HRT? If so, did that help your symptoms at all?xx

Hi Em, no I didn’t because I have fibroids and I think Tibolone is the one that’s recommended .. but I know I would react to any hormone bizniss now .. So now I’m trying herbal remedies and no prostap . The nurse recommended red clover so I’m trying a supplement with a high dose of that , and other things to help sleep and trying to exercise regularly for my mental health. Feel a lot less anxious now I’ve stopped the Prostap and hated trying the Tibolone . I totally get how you are feeling about it . The nurse I spoke to today agreed that it’s not for everyone and we know our own bodies . She said they have people on it for 2 years but they must be happy with it , or just sucking it up . Somebody told me it’s used off licence after 6months so that’s a bit concerning if it’s true . Just means there is a risk and we should be told that and have to sign that we are happy to take it if that’s the case . I work in a vets and we always get people to sign for off-licence use of meds . I might try oestrogen only gel after my op but that’s probably in the far distant future like yours . Makes me so upset that private patients get a choice of dates that suit them so soon after diagnosis and we have to wait forever. They also have things like Prostap explained in more detail before just being put on it . I got a bit upset about that this morning but not a lot we can do . Private patients that turn down dates should give that slot to an NHS person . Oh well ! Not gonna start moaning about rich and poor ! Good luck getting your op SOON!! X
