Hello there,

Yes I’ve had both. Ablation burns the top off your endometriosis, and that’s the first surgery I had. I found it improved my symptoms but didn’t stop them. The best treatment for endo is called excision which cuts it out at the root; it takes much longer to grow back and takes much more of the endo out, there are less surgeons trained in this type of surgery though, but there are some NHS surgeons. I’ve just had that (and was diagnosed with stage 4 endo, which was missed before) by paying for it as the waitlists are so long.

Mirena also has helped me, although it’s not a ‘treatment’ so much as a way to manage symptoms. It can take up to 6 months to settle down and there are side effects, but it’s worth a go as it can definitely reduce the pain.

If it’s helpful, there’s a brilliant facebook group called Nancy’s Nook which has so much info about current research on endo and a list of all the surgeons that do excision globally. There’s also some great advocates on Instagram like endogirlsblog. I’ve found the more you know the better you’re able to advocate for yourself ❤️

I hope that helps x
