Endometriosis, adenomyosis & hysterectomy

I've had 3 excision surgeries for stage 4 endo and my last one showed I had adenomyosis too. I feel absolutely torn because I'm due fertility treatment any week now, but the pain I'm in is really bad and now I'm thinking it must be my adeno. My Dr recommends having the hysterectomy after I try the fertility treatment, but I'm terrified of getting pregnant and being in this pain with a baby!! I can barely function myself these days without having to look after someone else. I always thought I'd be a mummy but now I'm not so sure. I'm 36 years old and I'm exhausted just being me. I don't know what to do....

Morning!

I just wanted to send you a big hug, because I'm in an almost identical situation (but 4 years older), and I know how totally rubbish it is.

Part of me wants to keep battling on with fertility treatments, the other half of me is saying 'seriously, you dont have the energy to look after yourself!'. I keep hoping for a miracle solution...

Fertility treatments are not always successful (bitter experience) although we are a bit of a medical mystery too. I assume you are thinking to try ivf?

Hi, thank you for replying and for the hug xIm really sorry that you've been disappointed with your treatment, it must be so difficult. I really empathise with you.

Yes I'm supposed to be getting ivf. I was meant to be seen pre-covid and the through a series of mix ups they managed to accidentally remove me from their waiting list. So I should be getting an appointment any day now to start the actual treatment. I'm absolutely terrified. I don't want to regret not having it but at the same time I'm just exhausted. I definitely don't want to be in this position in another year. I don't think I could mentally take it. It's so hard to know what to do.

Sending you hugs xxx

I think certainly speak to the ivf doctors about how you are feeling. You will be scanned constantly anyway so they will be able to spot anything (new) that might be causing the pain.

Embryos can be frozen so if you are worried about having regrets, you can always try the ivf and see what happens. Frozen cycles are often more successful anyway. And it gives you more time to think about what is best to do.
